Marketing your website with articles isn’t nearly as complicated as some people fear. Marketing, in all its forms, is simply how companies get the message about their products or services out to their prospects and customers. There are any number of strategies that can be used for this purpose. Article marketing is simply using articles to get the word out.

Article marketing allows you to communicate valuable and useful information to the public and then tag on a short note about your website, newsletter, a product or a service you promote in an effort to interest readers in visiting your site and subscribing, buying or hiring you. The main purpose in marketing with articles is to attract visitors, however.

Consider this… you’ve created the perfect website. You’ve spent hours setting it up. You’ve added great ads that will interest your visitors to bring in revenue. Now you need to get those visitors to the site so they can click on your ads and buy your products. How do you go about doing that?

One extremely popular, and effective, way is to write articles about topics that will interest your ideal visitor in the hopes that they will visit your site to find similar content on the same topic. That’s why, though it’s not mandatory, it’s certainly advisable to market with articles on a topic that ties into your site. That way your site visitors will already be pre-qualified for what you have to offer.

Your goal in writing articles is to market your website, not to sell with them. Articles should never contain a sales pitch, even one in disguise. And the bio or resource box you attach to the bottom shouldn’t try to sell either. Instead, use the article to offer helpful, valuable information. Then use the resource box to invite visitors to your site. That’s where you sell them. But not before.

You might prefer to invite your readers to a squeeze page (a one page site with little more than a subscriber box), the only purpose of which is to invite your visitor to sign up for your newsletter or opt-in to your mailing list. If so, you then sell to them through your mailings, which is really the most successful method of marketing online. This option gives you many more opportunities to sell to the same prospect.

In fact, many marketing experts tout the mailing list as the be-all and end-all of Internet marketing. And it’s easy to see why. If you use your articles and squeeze page to “sell” your newsletter and get people to subscribe, you can then use the newsletter to sell products and services and you’re killing two birds with one proverbial stone.

When marketing with articles, it’s best to focus the topic of your articles on what your readers will get if they do subscribe to your newsletter. For instance, if you promote Internet marketing products for online business owners, write articles about Internet marketing. You’ll be attracting people to your site who have proven to be interested in what you offer.

Marketing with articles is one of the most popular online marketing methods available. While it does require some writing skills, it’s fairly easy to do for anyone who can write even reasonably well. The key is to remember that you’re attracting visitors, not attempting to sell to them. This will help you succeed in using article marketing to increase your website traffic dramatically.
